Otherworld Miniatures (Late) Summer Sale

From now until the end of September, Otherworld Miniatures -- which I use in my Dwimmermount game, so I think very highly of their work -- is offering a 20% discount all orders and pre-orders. Given the very favorable exchange rate right now between the British pound and both the US and Canadian dollars, now's a very good time to consider picking up any Otherworld minis you've been considering.

There are a number of truly excellent new models available, especially in the undead series. I may have to pick up a few myself.

  1. Otherworld make really nice pieces in general, but those skeletons in particular might be the best skeleton mini's I've ever seen.

Right now it seems they're focusing on "bringing the Monster Manual to life." But I'd love to see them expand into something like "signature lines" for some of the great artists of classic D&D - I would absolutely love to see miniatures based on Erol Otus' idiosyncratic Kobold or Ghoul designs, for example.

  2. ...or based on pretty much anything by Russ Nicholson.

  3. The skeletons really remind me of Ray Harryhausen's skeletons in "Jason and the Argonauts".

  4. Not sure I'd call this a "very favorable" exchange rate for USD at least, but it is unlikely to get much better in the next few months -- if you've had your eye on these sculpts and have the cash, now's probably a great time to buy!

Well, the exchange rate is as good as it's been in my lifetime (USD = 0.64 GBP), I think. I remember when the British pound was worth about twice as much as the US dollar, for example.

  6. We all remember those times, but compared to where we were last year or even a few months ago, it's no bargain. (See http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=GBPUSD=X+Interactive#chart2:symbol=gbpusd=x;range=my;indicator=volume;charttype=line;crosshair=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=on;source=undefined -- lower is more "favo[u]rable" from a North American perspective.)

This is a sore spot for me because I've been buying New Naturalist books from the source and will have to ease off for awhile.

In any event, USD is probably headed lower on sterling, so readers are unlikely to get a better deal on these sculpts any time soon.

  7. Thank you for mentioning this. I've been waiting for a sale and checked a few days ago, no dice. Now I need my piggy bank and a hammer.
